Huawei makes and sells lots of smartphones. The company has plenty of choices for those looking for the latest and greatest, as well as more affordable mid-range options and very cheap low-end devices.

We’ve gone through all of the current and most recent Huawei phones to find the best ones you can buy, no matter how much money you have. There’s a wide variety of devices to choose from, but we can think of a few excellent standout products if you are looking for your next phone.

One quick note: We are concentrating on phones in this article that just have the Huawei branding. This list does not feature phones with Huawei’s Honor brand. Without further ado, let’s jump in and look at the best Huawei phones on the market right now.

Best all-around Huawei phones

Huawei Mate 20/Mate 20 Pro/Mate 20 X

The Mate 20 and 20 Pro are the high-end Huawei phones powered by the company’s newest in-house processor, the Kirin 980 — the first commercially available 7nm smartphone chipset.

The standard Mate 20 has a 6.53-inch LCD display, along with a 4,000mAh battery that supports the standard Huawei Supercharge feature found on the Mate 10 Pro and the P20. It comes with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of onboard storage. The Mate 20 Pro has a curved 6.39-inch OLED display, with a large notch on the front to support its 3D depth sensing 24MP camera. It sports a 4,200mAh battery with a 40W charging rate, allowing the Mate 20 Pro to charge up to 70 percent of its capacity in just 30 minutes. The Mate 20 Pro also has an in-display fingerprint sensor. It only comes in one model, with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

Both phones have triple rear cameras. The Mate 20 has an 8MP 3x telephoto lens, a wide 40MP sensor, and a new ultra-wide 20MP sensor. The standard Mate 20 has a 12MP primary sensor, an 8MP 3x telephoto lens, and a 16MP ultra-wide sensor. The phones’ AI chip will offer a number of features, including “4D predictive focus” which is supposed to track the main object of your photo to keep in focus. and more. Pricing for the Mate 20 starts at 799 euros (~$930) while the Huawei Mate 20 Pro will start at 1,049 euros (~$1,220).

The company also announced the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 20 RS, another version of the Mate 20 with 8GB of RAM. It’s priced at 1,695 euros (~$1,970) with 256GB of storage, and 2,095 euros (~$2,430) for 512GB of storage.

Huawei also launched another member of the Mate 20 lineup — the Mate 20 X. It’s a gaming-oriented handset, with a massive 7.2-inch display. It shares most of the same hardware specs as the Mate 20 Pro, but it has a huge 5,000mAh battery and a new, graphene-based cooling system designed to keep the phone from running hot during gaming sessions. Huawei also sells an optional gamepad attachment for the Mate 20 X, along with a stylus. The phone launched at 899 euros (~$1040) with 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage.

Huawei P20 and P20 Pro

Announced in March 2018, the Huawei P20 sports a 5.8-inch LCD display, while the Pro version boosts it up to 6.1 inches and an OLED panel. Both phones use Huawei’s Kirin 970 processor. Both have Leica-branded camera sensors in the back, and the P20 Pro happens to be the first smartphone to launch with three rear cameras, which is now becoming more commonplace. Both phones are still among the best Huawei phones you can buy right now and are just below the new Mate 20 phones.

Huawei Nova 4

The Huawei Nova 4 smartphone from the front and behind.The Nova 4 is Huawei’s first smartphone with a hole-punch display. It’s powered by the Kirin 970 chipset also found in the P20 Pro and sports a triple-camera setup at the back with 48MP, 16MP, and 2MP sensors (there’s also a model available with a 20MP + 16MP + 2MP setup). The handset has a 6.4-inch Full HD+ display, 8GB of RAM, and a 3,750mAh battery. It was announced in December in China, where it starts at 3,400 yuan (~$500). Launched a couple of months before its big brothers, the Huawei Mate 20 Lite targets people who love to take pictures and selfies, with two cameras on the back and two on the front. The rear camera setup has a 20MP main sensor and a secondary 2MP camera. The front cameras get the higher pixels, with a primary 24MP selfie camera and a 2MP secondary sensor. Huawei says its AI camera features allow for people to choose from 200 different scenarios in eight categories with images taken with the front cameras, and 500 scenarios in 22 categories for photos in the rear cameras.

Other photo and video features on the Mate 20 Lite include real-time HDR previews and QMoji (its version of Apple’s Animoji for its iPhones) for the front cameras. The rear cameras support smart composition to help owners frame their shots, along with support for 480fps slow-motion videos.

The Huawei Mate 20 Lite has a big 6.3-inch 2,340 x 1,080 resolution display, and inside you get 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard expandable storage, along with Huawei’s Kirin 710 processor. There’s also a 3,750mAh battery with 18W fast charging features. It’s available now for about $290 and perhaps the best mid-range Huawei branded phone on the market.

Huawei P20 Lite

The P20 Lite sports a modern design and solid specs. The handset features a 5.84-inch Full HD+ display and is powered by the Kirin 659 chipset. It also comes with 4GB of RAM, a dual-camera setup at the back, and a 3,000mAh battery. There’s even a headphone jack on board, which is missing on the P20 and P20 Pro. In Europe, the phone retails for around 235 euros. It wasn’t officially released in the U.S. but you can still get the international model on Amazon for $226.

Huawei P Smart+

The Huawei P Smart+ is a mid-range device sporting a 6.3-inch display with Full HD+ resolution. It’s powered by the Kirin 710 chipset and comes with 4 or 6GB of RAM. There’s a dual-camera setup at the back with 16 and 2MP sensors, as well as two cameras up front (24MP + 2MP). Other specs and features include a headphone jack, a 3,340mAh battery, and expandable storage. It retails for 240 euros, which translates to around $275. The handset was not released in the U.S.

It runs on Huawei’s Kirin 659 processor and has a 3000mAh battery, along with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

Editor’s Pick

If you really like Huawei’s products, but don’t want to spend a ton of money, this phone might be for you. Amazon currently sells the 3GB RAM-32GB ROM version of the phone for $200, making this the best low budget Huawei phone you can buy right now.

However, it is the international variant of the device, which means it doesn’t come with a warranty. The phone wasn’t officially released in the U.S. but is available in Europe, where it goes for 160 euros.

It has two rear cameras; a main 16MP sensor and a 2MP secondary camera, along with an 8MP front-facing camera. It also has a large 3,340mhA battery. It’s available on Amazon and other retailers for $220.


Huawei Y7 (2018)

The last model on our list of the best Huawei phones is the Y7 (2018). It sports a 5.99-inch HD+ display and packs the Snapdragon 430 along with 2GB of RAM under the hood. The rear camera comes in at 13MP, while the selfie snapper features an 8MP sensor. The phone also has a headphone jack on board, which is missing on the company’s flagship series. The Huawei Y7 (2018) looks more expensive than it is and also comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Although it wasn’t officially released in the U.S., you can get your hands on the international model via Amazon for around $150.
